The cricket match between Pahiatua and Dannevirke, to have been played at Woodville yesterday, was postponed, and in all probability will be played on Saturday next. A special general meeting of the Starr-Bowkett Building Society, will be held on December 10th. The business will bo to amend the rule. An appropriation by sale will also be made. During the course of the proceedings subsequent to the installation ceremony at Victoria Lodge, Napier, last .night, the Prpv. Grand Master, R.W. Bro. • McDougall, announced his intention to relinquish office at the end of his present term, when he would have completed seven years' work in the position. Mr R. -W. Smith, the Independent Liberal candidate for Rangitikei at the last election, has declined to accept a purse of sovereigns. Over £2.00 has been subscribed, and is being returned to the subscribers. Mr Smith ia to be entertained at a banquet shortly, when probably a presentation of a pieco of plate will be made ■..-..-' The New Zealand winners in the world wide competition of the British and Foreign Sailors' Society of London are: —North Island: Lenore M. Sutherland, Qnehunga District High School;- Souti Island: Gretta M. Isdale, Waitaki Girls' High School, Oamaru. The subject was, "What does the nation, ow© Nelson and her sailors?" The prizes .are plaques bearing the King's initials and made from copper used in Nelson's old flagships, the Victory and the Fondroyant.
