AUCKLAND, to-day. Further severe earthquakes wero experienced at Whakatahe last night. Evidences go to confirm the idea of an eruption on Whale Island. Professor Thomas, , interviewed, said the indications point to two ways, either that water obtained access to the hot volcanic rocks below tho surface, or to volcanic steam, which has accumulated until it has produced a fissure, or else this may bo a stage of volcanic activity along a recognised line of volcanic action, in which case there may occur an- explosion such as rent Tarawera.
