Shortly after 1 o'clock this 'afternoon a horse attached to a- &prin"eart came careering down Gordon street,; up High street,, and into Ward street, where it pulled up. The horse and dray proved to be the property of Mr bcotney, who: states that the horse slued at. a little girl riding a bicycle along Queen street at the junction of - Chamberlain street. In a general way the horse is perfectly quiet and reliable, but something in connection with the cyclist startled it, and off it went at a furious pace. He points out that on November 2nd a public meeting, was held in the public library, NorasT wood, to se© what could be done tib assist the wife and family of the late Albert Hansen. They were left in.'ii state of destitution. At the meeting it was decided to issue subscription lists and to canvass Norsewood' and ' surrounding districts for funds on behalf of the family. Mrs Hansen and daughter (aged 18) are almost- blind, and one of the boys is partially affected with blindness. As a result of this appeal they raised £60. With the money in hand, it was decided (bypublic meetings held on-'- November 20th and later) to send tho girl te tho Jubilee Institute for the blind, Auckland, and if possibl^tol-eep her there for two years, ano.-. ,vith any money there may be left in hand to assist Mrs Hansen and the other members of the family. . The girl who is to bo sent to Auckland will bo provided with an outfit of clothing out of the" fund.
