When the results of the Parliamentary contest were thus far completed, the public attention was then direct-, ed to the local option poll, - but the first few results were sufficiently emphatio to indicate that there waftlittle prospect ef- carrying a threefifths majority, and this opinion was more fuljy confirmed as the returns came in, from the different jsettle-; ments, and it is not an exaggeration to say. that the results were /6onie-« thing of a surprise, as the No-Kcense party, had expected- to ddrmuch bet-* ter. * ; :, ■•■■■. >- ....-' ... :I, WAIPAWA ELECTORATE.
