[PBESS ASSOCIATION.] ---, AUCKLAND, yesterday. At tho Supremo Court Tihi Te Pehi wa.s charged with tho murder of his brother Pi Ta,wa on September loth at Ruatoki. ' Tihi was. minding a cow and calf belonging to another man- when Tawa drove them away, niter knocking Tihi down in the quarrel which followed his arrival. Tihi followed his brother and was again knocked down. On rising in a passion he picked tip a stick and struck Tawa ovor tho head. Tawa died two days later. The Judge summed up in favour of a verdict of . manslaughter, - and the jury returned that verdict) without retiring, with a strong recommendation to mercy. The Judge said it was evident that the prisoner was tho one most sorry for the crime, and had been sufficiently punished by remorse. He would sentence him to five, days' imprisonment, dating from the opening of the session, which meant immediate release. ■
