MR REID RETIRES. Press Assn — By telegraph— Copyright.SYDNEY, yesterday. Mr Reid, speaking at Yass, announced his retirement froxn tho leadership of the Federal. Opposition. (^Received this day, 10.35 a.m.) SYDNEY, to-day. ' Mr Reid, in resigning the leadership, stated that tho situation which had arisen in Federal politics, mado it necessary he should resign, so that the position might be occupied by someone, ablo to .give, tho close individual attention which tho situation demanded. The Herald, while regretting the decision, which was the only solution of a difficult position, hopes it will be the first step ill welding together tho Liberal sections of the House. Tho Telegraph says the resignation offers a tactical opportunity, if not to bring about a union in Parlia-ment,-to forcibly point its- necessity out to the people.
