THE DAIRY REGULATIONS.

Mr J. W. Deem, chief inspector of stock for the West Coast districts of the North Island, conversing with a reporter at Palmor&ton North on Friday about the "harassing" dairy regulations, stated that-- he had 'been interviewing farmers in various districts and had found very little objection to tho regulations. Occasionally a farmer wlio had boon, given an altogether distorted version of tho Government's proposals would complain, but 011 being informed of the true nature of the regulations would express himself as satisfied. Continuing, Mr Deem said : There has beeii considerable talk aboxit* the regulations'by certain candidates, but it is really only a plaffk for a platform, .a. political .doge, and most farmers take that •sort of talk at its true valuation. ' I have met no farmer who complained of being liarass..ed by inspectors, but it is generally recognised tliat their duty is "mot to" prosecute, but to oducate. Factory managers are practically unanimous in their approval, and I prophecy thai, once the election is over, there will be no. more heard of tho hardship of tho. regulations.
