A meeting of the" Grand Master and Board of Directors of tihe New Zealand branch, of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows was held here yesterday. ' A report was presented snowing that the registrar of friendly societies -had -sustained the decision of the central body re the south . Rakaia Lodge dispute, and had ordered tliat lodge to pay to the Ashburton . district £2j.xj. The money has been paid and thei lodge dissolved, j :'. A motion was passed thai this meet-_ ing regrets that the Government shelved the Friendly Societies Bill, and : urges the members of the several districts to do their utmost to. bring the Bill before the notice of members of Parliament, and request them to endeavor to have the same dealt with at an early stage in the new Parliament. It was also resolved to request the several districts to consider the proposed National Provident Fund Bill, as to its probable effect on friendly societies. ■ Resotvedj that _ Government should be approached with reference to boycott of lodges in oountry districts by certain medical mcii. : . It was decided to^gbijain information with a view to establishing a central sick and funeral fund.
