The contractor for metalling the Raumati Road at this end commenced this week, three drays being employed, and the metal obtained from Mr Jtllius Petersen's pit. Another metalling contract is also being carried y out on the central road.

The bridge across the Manga-t'e-"Wainui River, on the MakotukuMatamau Road, will be completed in about a fortnight's time, when the contractors widl remove their camp to B&dingfield's, wliere another bridge has to be erected. When .completed, through vehicular traffic between the two places will be practicable. ' Like other places, grass is abundant, and dairy farmers are in good heart as regards this season's prospects, and sheep farmers have had a very good percentage of lambs. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Matamau School Committee was held last evening. Present : Messrs J. A. Jeiisen (chairman), J. and T. Moran, Tarrant, Ellis, and Tansey (hon. secretary). The master's report on the recent examination was road and considered satisfactory. Mr Brown, the newly-appointed master, wrote applying for the lease of the 7-acre school paddock. — Granted at arental of Is per acre. The Visiting Committee reported that the master's residence, the outside of the school, and the inside of the master's room had been painted. The chairman was instructed to interview a settler re non-attendance of his children at school. Accounts amounting to £3 14s were passed for payment. Messrs Ellis and J. Moran were appointed visiting committee for tire ensuing month. The local Athletic Club hold their annual meeting at 8 p.m. on Friday evening ,w-hen it is hoped a good muster will roll up, as important business is to be transacted, including election of officers for the ensuing i season. \
