DANNEVIRKE HIGH SCHOOL v. NAPIER FOURTH GRADE.

The Napier fourth grade representative team and the Dannevirko High School played a match on the "Rec." this afternoon, commencing at 1;15. From the kick-off the school attacked strongly, and Napier were kept busily^ defending. Time and again the school assailed the line, but their efforts were fruitless until 17 - minutes' play had passed. Then from a f ast%rward~ rush, Tarrant and roulsen broke away, the latter picking up near the line, and scoring alongside the posts. . Phillips added the goal. ' School 5, Napier nil. , For ajshOrt time from the kick-off, Napier rallied, and took play up in front of the school goaly but safe play by Cook relieved the pi-es-sure, and the School once more swept onward, taking everything before them. A breach of the rules stopped them. The ball was sent on to Mckenzie, who ran infield. Several opponents attempted to collar him, but he brushed them off like flies, and finally passed to Maekay, who made a fast run down the line, and scored. Phillips' shot at goal failed. School 8, Napier nil. Play was confined for the rest of the spell to Napier territory. Only once did the visitors look dangerous, but Phillips saved, and the spell ended: School 8, Napier 0. On resuming the second -spell, it was thought that the school would have a warm time, they playing with a strong sun in their eyes. The ball was kicked off, and the Napier three-quarter missed it, a scrum ensuing. The school secured possession, Burtenshaw passing to Phillips, who scored. Taking the kick himself, he failed. School 11, Napier 0. Shortly after this, Mackay secured the ball about the half-way flag, and made a dashing run round the field, and scored. The line umpire hoisted his flag and- gave the player out, but as a matter of fact, he was a foot from the. lino. Not to be denied, however, the School attacked continuously, and Tarrant and Phillips each scored tries, McKenzie converting the latter, bringing the score up to 19 points to nil. The visiting team were quite as heavy as the local boys, but lacked combination.
