Five hundrtX 1 ? . yards metal was voted "for" the' Whu.^arfir-v ■ Road— Granted. FOREMAN'S REPORT. V I beg to report a very busy month attending to washouts, broken c\\lverts, river crossings, and watertable cleaning in various parts of my district. Austin's contract, 600yds, Moroney, 800yds, Moulder 300yds, are all completed, . and Moroney, O'Rourke, and Hamilton are going on with their respective' contracts. The newly-formed piece near Middleton's Onga Origa-Fairfield Road, requires metalling so urgently that I have taken the liberty of having tenders called for 400 yards, and earnestly recommend you to deal with.- them to-day; there is also 500yds required between Hampden and G. Ireland's, where the engine traffic has completely broken up the road, and in wet weather it is one continuous bog on the flats; there is 500yds required in the Hampden township. This is also principally through, engine traffic. The main road in the Wakarara riding is in an awful state, and although some metal has been arranged for, I would like more to be authorised, -as it urgently wants 1000yds to be of any use to it. During the last flood some tons. of the hill fell, and buried the intake wheel bos of the Forest Gate water-race, and although there is some grumbling, it is neither possible ivor safe to open the gate, much, as I would like to, on : account of the heavy current running against it and the danger of letting any, of the rocks into >the tunnel until anotherflood comes which will no doubt shift them past the gate entrance. The watertables in the Onga Onga riding are now being attended to; also; in South Makaretu. I have arranged to have them cleaned from Pagets to Alldriches. There, has been scours of more or less importance "on Abbotsford Road, . Argyle, Newton's creek, Springhill, Cohr's bridge, Sherwood, and Fairfield-Blackburn crossing, on the Onga creek, but these have been temporarily attended to, and can aAvait. further attention until the new Council is elected ; the watertables on the new deviation, Waipawa, Hampden Road, and on Mathiesori's Road beyond Gwavas, have been cleaned out, the new bridge on the Scenic Road is in course of erection, and: when the stress of work will- allow the small number, of hands we have. I intend getting Gaffney's bridge in the Wakarara attended to. —Referred to new Council. The pay-sheet, amounting to £648 7 3d, was-pased for payment. The ender of D. Moroney at Is 6d per yard was accepted for delivery of 400 yards metalling in the Lindsay sottlGinent. A special meeting of the Dannevirke County Council was then held, when the Weber Main Road, main road from the Oroua-Kliritaki stream to the Danhevirke County boundary from Norsewobd to Ormondville and Waikopiro Road were declared main roads. . .
