WEBER COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly mooting oi' the Wobor County Council was hold on Satnnlay last. Present— Cr.i Riddtil (chair), Armstrong, Jensen, Herrick, Crosse, Dr Riddell and Bond. Before commencing busiiu •. tho Chairman welcomed Cr Cro •' t^> his scat on the Council. CORRESPONDENT K. The District Road Engim-ei- forwarded schedule of authorities in tho hands of Council on March 31sr, and asked that the necessary information be supplied 1 . — To receive attention. The United District Charitable. Aid Board wrote stating that the levy for current year would be £48 Os od. — Received. The Paymaster-General advised that £200 for metalling from Wimbledon to north-west boundary had been remitted to credit of county fund account. — Received. The Counties Association forwarded copies of legal opinions. Donald McLean wrote drawing attention to unsatisfactory state of creek crossings leading to his place, complaining that it was the second time he had to bring the matter tinder the notice of Council. He proposed that the Council should construct a light traffic bridge, which he estimated would cost £o. — On the motion of Crs Herrick and tho Chairman, the overseer was directed to report at next meeting on the crossing, and probable.- cost of bridge. — Carried. A letter was received from A. Fife, relative to papa kiln near his property. — The overseer said he gave Mr Fife to understand that the. Council would make good any damage's done to -fence, and that it was not intended to go nearer than six foot io fence. — The clerk was instructed to confirm the overseer's statement. A. McLean wrote stating that the county horses were in his paddock from January 7th to about 23rd or 24th March, 1906.— Moved by Cr Jensen, seconded by Dr Riddell, that Mr McLean be paid for the actual time tho horses were glazing in his paddock . — Carried. J. J. Gilmour wrote regretting delay in supplying timber for bridge owing to shortage of water. A ie\egrani of a later date was also received from him, stating that the timber had been forwarded.— The overseer was instructed to complete and open bridge as early as possible. W. Green notified that he had sold section 1, block 2, Weber S.D., to Neils J. Berntsen. H. W. Mabbett gave notice of transfer of section 42, block o, Weber, to J. Rice, and section 48, block 0, Weber, to T. S. Booth. Messrs Hunter and Seymour wrote re an account for horse feed and stabling.— To be paid. A. Robertson wrote re his account received. The Auditor-General forwarded certified copy of county balance-sheet, with exceptions, with request that a printed copy be forwarded to him when published . Re alteration of county boundaries : After a discussion it was resolved, on the "motion of Crs Crosse and the Chairman, to hold the matter over 1 till after meeting of Akitio County Council. The overseer's report was read as follows : — A. Carmiehael has completed contract No. 56 in a most satisfactory manner, having delivered 1932 cubic yards of metal on the road between J. Sargent's gate and the north-west boundary during the past two mouths. C. Sachs has made good progress with contract Xo. 59 on the Tah.uokavotu Road, and has made a good start with contract No. 58 on the Oporae Road. Mcßeth and McDonald are also progressing with contract No. 62, on the Waione Road. I understand they have commenced cutting wood for contract 61 on the Esdale Road. Some of the pipes for culvert at Palmer's bend are to hand, and as soon as the remainder of them are delivered the work av ill be put in hand. I ■would suggest that the question of consideration of Government grants be gone into at your next meeting, so that it might give Mr R. B. Ross, M.P., ample time to put your just claims before the House of Representatives at next session of Parliament. Culvert at Palmer's bend : Cr Crosse suggested that the pipes be put in where old portion of culvert was carried away. This met with general approval, and the overseer was instructed to put the work in hand as early as possible. Ro application for Government giants: Moved by Cr Dr Riddell, that councillors together with overseer go over various roads in the county before next meeting, and see what is required. — Seconded by Cr Bond and carried. Cr Jensen said it was reported to , him that a mob of about 4.00 cattle were running on Teawapxitahi Road. J —Moved by Cr Dr Riddell that a notice be inserted twice in both Dannevirke papers that all stock running

Cr Jensen pointed out that there was a resolution on the minute book that the mill stream road be put in order, and emphasised tho uselessness of passing such resolutions uni less the work was carried out, as I nothing had so far been done in that direction. — The overseer said lie had '< more important works which prevented him from sending teams on the mill stream road. — After a discussion the overseer was instructed to try and make arrangements to have the necessary work done. Cr Herrick wanted to know when the timber for culvert on Oporae Road would be available.-*— The overseer replied that he expected it to arrive with bridge timber. Cr Jensen asked if a man could be put on the Tahuokaretu Road to open up culverts, etc. — Overseer to send man out. Cr Crosse desired to know when the spring bridge across Akitio river would be, repaired and pointed out that there should be no' difficulty in securing the timber. He also reported that he had not sggii any notice on the bridge "as being unsafe. ".-He referred to portions of Waione Road which badly require attending to before winter months, one culvert being blocked, up. — Left with overseer to attend to. The overseer was instructed to report to nest meeting the estimated | cost of picking up large stones and | breaking same on l-ougli pori'ion-.o? road near Waipatiki. ' Special orders making winter bylaws were confirmed on the motion of the Chairman and Cr Jensen. The pay-sheet, amounting to £871 13s 9d, was passed for payment.
