THE PORTUGUESE RIOTS.
AN INQUIRY. Press Assn — By telegraph — Copyright. LISBON, yesterday. The Portuguese Cabinet has ordered a searching enquiry into the circumstances of the recent riots. It" is alleged that the Municipal Guard fired a volley into a crowd of unarmed people, and .that the Guard wounded five soldiers belonging to a detachment which waa marcliing past San Domingo square, where the chief riot occurred. It is also stated that the Municipal Guard at San Domingo square fired 170 shots, aiming generally on the ground. Seven hundred persons have been arrested, including 1 many of the prolcletariat, who were in possession of a large sum of money.
