Light weights arc extremely scarce, tor which a brisk demand prevails. The following are current quotations: — Canterbury mutton, 4£d; North Island, 4£d ; River Plate, 3|d. There is dull sale foTiheavy carcases of mutton, which are quoted as follows: — Canterbury, 3:|d; North Island, 3{jd ; River Plate, 3fd. The lamb market is, firm, and stocks on hand are light, but the supplymeets the demand. Heavy weights can obtain a small premium. Can-; terbury brands, og-d ; other than Canterbury, oldThe beef market is firm, and stocks of New Zealand brands on hand are light. The supplies of River Plate, beef are heavy, with moderate demand, which is purely speculative. Hindquarters, 3|d ; fore-quarters, 3jd. The butter market is steady, the best quality being scarce. There isgood demand for choicest New Zealand butter at Ills; Australian, 107s; Argentine, 107s ; Danish, 109s ; Siberian, 106s per cwt. The cheese rimrket is quiet with a tendency to favor buyers. White makes, 60s; jcolored, of which there is a small supply, 62s per cwt. The hemp market is rising, and there is a better demand. Good-fair grade, £26^ 10s; fair grade, £25 10s, in all positions. The cocksfoot market ip quiet, and buyers are not keen to do business. Bright clean 171 b seed, 80s per cwt: wool market is depressed, and weaker, with a downward tendency.
