In v number of instances furniture was removed from house* to places of safety. A three-roomed cottage, occupied by \V. White, alongside the. hotel, was destroyed. A little, furniture was saved. Several cowshfds and outbuildings wero demolished, and general damage was done. The township was in grave danger from destruction. Natives living on the hill opposite the hutel cleared their whares of everything, and slept in tho open air all night. The> (ires; have now subsided.
