The Spectator states that the Conference Blue Book shows that the Premiers were unable to realise that Freetraders object to giving preference, not out of love for the foreigners, but because they do not wish to make holes in our taxes, which therefore are unproductive. The taxes are not for juggling states int.- wealth, or of putting money in private pockets without benefiting the poor. The Blue Book also shows, says the Spectator, hoiv unjust were the allegations of discourtesy towards the Premiers.
