FIRES.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, Thjs day. A large boardinghouse at the corner of Russell Terrace arid Waripori-street, Newtown, occupied by Sutherland, a motorman on an electric car, was destroyed by fire at 3.30 this morning. Thirteen or fourteen other emplyees on electric trams service were boarding with Sutherland, but they all got out safely, some in very scanty clothiug. Nothing was saved.

The boavdmghouse on Russell Terrace, destroyed by fire, was owned by SofEe, and occupied by Sutherland and 14 lodgers. SofEe's insurances on the building are £500 in the New Zealand office, ;£] so in Commercial Union; on furniture £200 in Alliance. He estimats his loss at £500 or £600 above the insurance.

Sutherland had his furniture insured for £175 in the South British. He estimates his loss at £200 to £300 above the insurance.

A fire was discovered in Levin and Co.'s large warehouse early last evening. It appears to have broken out amongst the cotton-waste on the top floor. " The fire was kept in check by the employees until the arrival of the brigade, and very little damage was caused. About £2500 worth of wool was stored on the floor where the outbreak occurred.
