A NEW MILKING MACHINE.

■ ■»—- '■'. Last week we published a paragraph; from the Dairyman in reference to a new milking machine which had been invented. Dairy farmers in this district will be interested in the following particulars of a trial of the machine which was held iepeqtly,^'kb-<ihe word go* th^a^^Mua: that is at-, tached the cow was taken from its place in the bail, the teats were cleansed,, the cow leg-roped, and milking begun in one minute and three-quarters. The cow meanwhile contentedly chewed the cud. It was a notel sight and a strange one. Stretched at full length was the assistant, enjoying the sensation of doing nothing;, the inventor was called away, y The machine meantime doing its work noiselessly and well. Gradually, steadily and rapidly milk flowed into the' ordinary milk bucket used, the- whirr ot the electric motor only breaking the silence. The hiss, hiss, hiss of the hand milker was missing, for the milk from the machine flowed noiselessly into the receptacle. As the milking was nearly ended, we began to speculate as to the amount of that wonld be got after the machine was taken off. Fortyfire seconds after the word finished was uttered by the timekeeper the machine was off the cow and hung up ready for next milking. The operator then took a half -pint mug in one hand, stripping each teat in turn with the other. The resultant strippings were by us poured into an egg-cup, where they were very nearly lost. As a measure for what was got after the machine the egg-cup was a leviathan vessel Adjournment was then made for che house. A dessert spoon was impressed into the measuring business ; but the dessert spoon was also too big. A teaspoon was tried. This was filled once from the egg-cup. We tried again. The teaspoon was half full. The egg-cup was empty." This doubtless will be pleasant reading to many farmers and we can imagine that they will watch with interest the career of this lastest milking machine.
