• (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. } Invercargill, January 31. Dr Ogstou, after two examinations, pronounced the case of the Orepuki man to be oue of severe eczema and not small-pox. Wellington, Jan. 3J . On the 6teamer Takapuna arriving yesterday, two members of thu crew developed symptoms of illness and developed a rash incidental to smallpox. Dr Mason ordered them to Spiaes' Island. The men's berths on th« steamer were thoroughly fumigated, ar.d everyono on board vaccinated. The cases are not serious. It is hoped they will not prove to be small-pox. The two local patients are reported to be making favourable progress. No further cases or suspects are reported. Wholesale vaccinations are taking place. Wellington, This Day. Closer observations prove that the men removed from the s.sV Takapnna to Somes' Island are not affected by small-pox, and they will probably be released from quarantine to-day.
