Hawke's Bay Axemen's Association.
— • A meeting of members of the Hawke'B Bay Axemen's Association was held in the Mangatera Hotel last evening. Present— Messrs Riches (in the chair), Benbow, gNeilsen, Baird, Johansen, Melville and Maney (hon. secretary). Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows :— , - From Mr Hobbs, in reference to purchasing the sole right of legal games on the day of the carnival, his offer of 10s being accepted. - - . . , From the chairman of the Domain Board, granting the Association permission to hold their carnival on the Domain on May 25th, providing the Association pay for advertising the Board's permit, and that the committee do net interfere with the cricket pitch; I also that the ground be cleared after the carnival. ' From the secretary of the .Eltham Axemen's Association, in reference to this Association affiliating with the New Zealand Axemen's Association.— The secretary reported that he had, since the last meeting, written to the secret tary of the Eltham Axemen's Association to the effect that this Association had decided to affiliate. The following gentlemen were 1 elected as office-bearers : — Handicapper, Mr Riches ; judges, Messrs 3. Harper, C. Melville and J. Cowen j referee, Mr J. Neagle ; timekeepers, Messrs Nymand, Martin and McCuUum. The following gentlemen were added to the working committee : — Messrs J. Coweji, J. and E. Bogan, T. Williams, F. Johansen and T. Morgan. It was decided to add a handicap single-handed sawing competition to the programme, the prizes to be •— First, £3 ; second, £l 10s. It was decided to increase the prize money in the double-handed sawing competition by giving two • trophiesvalued at £2 2s for second money and a third prize of 10s. The secretary was instructed to invite tenders for the supply of logs. It was decided to hold a dance in the evening after the sports. It was decided to hold the next meeting on May 5. A vote of thanks was accorded the chairman and the meeting terminated.
