WOMEN IN CONFERENCE.
THE Womeu's Christian Temperance Union has many sympathisers iv the colony, but it is going the right way to lose muoh of the support it now receives. At the recent conference held in Dunedin the members, in debating a number of political and economic questions which had no relation at all to the cause of temperance, got quite beyond their depth. The discussions were, in many instances, irrelevant, while the opinions expressed by some of the speakers were most eccentric. No one wishes to ridicule the movement. On the contrary, we believe it is capable of doing a great deal of good in the community. To assist its object the Union will need to limit its discussions at future conferences, otherwise it will become a subject for ridionle and hostility, thereby marring the success of its work.
