When Wellington went in to but there were seven wickets still to fall and only eighty-nine runs required to win, but Hales, the last batsman, was caught by Read when making the rfcessary hit, the innings thus closing for 135, one short of the required total. The scores were : — Midland, first innings, 144, second 214. total 328; Wellington, first innings, 192 ; 'second 135, total 327. i
