ENTERTAINS MR CHAMBERLAIN. A PRINCELY OVATION. (united press association.) (By Electric TelegrapL— Copyright.) London, March 21. Mr Chamberlain was the guest of the London Corporation at the Guildhall. H© received a princely ovation from Prime Ministers, Agents-General and many leading notabilities. In responding to the Corporation adoress, he repeated the predictions made oq the occasion of his previous visit to the Guildhall. He stiid the contest between progressive and retrograde Civilization had been finally decided, and thfi field was clear for workiog th« natural forces tending to unite kindred races. It was not tor supremacy we contended, but for political equality, which we were as ready to concede as we were formerly eager to gain. He urged continuity of the national policy of firmness and sympathy. Responding to the toast of his health, Mr Chamberlain said the new conception of Empire —voluntary organisation, based on couaniuuity of interests and sacrifices —must be iu fused into the colonies, and this gospel muyt be preached from colonial pulpits. Worse employments, be said, might be found for Secretaries of State than tramping the globe preaching the doctrine of the Empire's Imperial mis-, sion. The Bight Hon. A. J. Balfour said that the South African tour was Mr Chamberlain's own conception, and ha justly deserved the blessing pronounoed upon him by the peacemakers.
