A GENEROUS GIFT. DROUGHT BREAKING UP. United Press Association. (By Electric Telegraph.— Copyright.) Sydney, March 22. The Trustees of the Sydney cricket ground have donated LIOOO towards the drought fund. A rumour has been current here that Major-General Hutton has resigned owiug to political interference with his reorganisation of the defences. He, howover, empatically denies any intention of resigning, and states that at no period since he assumed command has there been so much hope of a successful issue to his scheme of reorgauisation as now. The insurances on Heutsch's Bond, destroyed by fire on Friday night amounted to £123,500, distributed amongst thirty-three companies holding direct policies. It is understood that a considerable amount of the stock i« reinsured. Tb.9 South British holds a line of the New Zealand Company a similar amounton the building. The New Zealand has also aline of £4,275. Brisbane, March 22. The prospects of a complete break up in the drought are more hopeful than ever. Good raiDS still continue.
