Danneyirke Borough Council

A special meeting of the Borough Council was held last evening. Present —The Mayor (Mr A. L. Gordon), Crs W. Haines, D. M^fntyre, J. Calder, H. M. Ries. ■ ■ ■ ■ J Apologies for /absence were receivedl from Crs Rose, Thomson, Ransom, Drink water and Carlson and leave of absence was granted. The Overseer estimated the. cost of laying mains to the railway sheds as follows :—via Queen Street, 23jd chains. 4 inch main L 199, 2 inch main LBo ; via Christian Street, 18 chains, 4 inch main L 15 3; 2 inch main, L 65. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr Eies and seconded, by Cr Calder, That MrC. Hall. M.H.R., be asked to ascertain if the Railway Department would be willing to advance the cost of laying a 4 inch main along Queen Street - to the railway sheds, the council to refund tbe amount when the waterworks account is m funds. The Building Inspector's report on Mr Greenaway's application for a permit to erect twelve new rooms to the boardinghouse occupied by Mr Benzie. He could not advise that the permit be granted as there would not be the air apaqe required by the Public Health Aetif the additions were made. Resolved (Crs Ries— Mclutyre) That this council regrets that ifhas not tbe power to grant Mr Greenaway's request for a building permit, as to do so, would be coutrary to the provisions of section 352 of the Publio Health Act. Cr Ries resigned his position as Health Inspector to the Borough.— 7 At tbe request Of the Council O Bias <srasented to act as health inspector sutil a paid officer is reported. A letter was received from Mr Thompson, Chairman of tbe Norsewood Road Board, intimating that that local authority had appointed him a delegate to a conference of representatives from local bodies to appoint an inspector under the Publio Health Act. It was, also, intimated that the Ormondville Town Board were willing to join m the movement for appointing an inspector. On the motion of Crs Ries and Haines, it was resolved that the Mayor and Crs Ries and Ransom be delegates to represent this" council at the proposed conferr ence, the meeting of delegates to be convened on reoeipt of a reply from the Woodville Borough Council. Crs Ransom, Calder and Haines, on the * motion of Cr Ries and Melntyre. were appointed a committee to report on a suitable site for the Fire Brigade station and ii resell tower and ascertaiu the price at which such could be obtained. The committee to report at next meeting W. E. Andrews, licensee of the railway Hotel, applied for a permit authorising tbe erection. of ten extra bedrooms to that hotel. The permit was granted subject to the Building Inspector's being favourable.
