Messrs A. Turnbull, S.M., L Wright, and 0. M. Wbittingtpn, members of the Waipawa Licensing Committee, rcet in Napier od Friday and granted a temporary transfer of the liconse of the Maicotukn Hotel from J. 0. Davis to T. Morgan. A young man named Yates met with a strange and very unfortunate accident while bwshfelling on Dr Macallan's section in the Ngapaeruru. He had pu,t a scarf in a tree, which fell before it was expected. Yates' axe waa jammed in the scart, and as he ran from the falling trae the axe was ejected with great force, the edge striking him nn the calf_ of the leg, and inflicting a wound six inches in length. He was brought to town, and his injuries were dressed by Dr Macallan.
