THE MAYORALTY.

(To The Editor.) Sib,— Mr A. Mackay's action at Mr Carlile's meeting last evening must , surely dispel any doubt which may have existed in the minds of those present as to his unsuitability for the position of Mayor. The motion and amendment were put, and all fairminded persons present at once saw that the vote of thanks was carried by a large majority. But to attain a party end, Mr Makay, who was in the chair, attempted to inflict a cruel injustice upon Mr Carlile, and said that he hesitated to decide which resolution was carried. His action was commented upon in strong terms on all hands, but was only in keeping with his proceedings when occupying the Mayoral chair. I cannot conceive of fair-minded ratepayers being so one-sided and thoughtless of the reputation of their town as to vote for bim at tbe election for Mayor on Wednesday nest.— l am, etc., Cms.
