THE MONEY LENDING SCHEME.
(per press association.) Sydney, This day. I The Sydney Daily Telegraph, commenting on the schema of the New Zealand Government for advancing money to settlers says, that on paper it looks all right and should be an excellent thing if working producers can obtain money at the lowest possibla interest, and it can hardly be doubted that with the Government as tha financial agent and guarantor this can be done. Nevertheless the schema is surrounded with perils and presents practically some possiblities of maladministration. A similar system resulted in wholesale disaster in the Argentine Republic. Tbe article goes on to say tbat New Zealand has done excellent legislative work and bas prospered accordingly but_ to venture on a scheme of thie kind is attempting too much and perhaps some coniousness of this inn uced the lata Mr Ballance to withhold the scheme from publicity.
