In the House of Commons the Premier, while declining to announce before Feburary next the ship-building programme of the Admiralty, declared that tbe Government would maintain the distinct naval supremacy of England. A movement is afloat for the formation of an importers' advisory committee regarding frozen meat on similar lines of that recently established to regulate the prico of colonial butter. The conference re the miners' strike has decided that the men that the men should resume 'work at the old [rates until February, and that a conciliation board comprising _28 delegates fiom the mine owners and miners should be appointed forthwith, the board to continue io office for one year to determine the rate of wages from time to time. The appointment of a chairman of the board and the question of a casting vote (if necessary) virtually rest with the Speaker of the House of Ccmmons. There is great relief throughout the country at the settlement of the difficulty.

Nov. 19. Severe gales have been experienced along the British coast, and many vessels have been driven ashore. There has been much loss of life and property, and in the inland towns falling chimneys have caused sad destruction. Nov. 20. The storm was accompanied by a heavy fall of snow, and in Essex snow drifts wero six feet deep. The severity ef the weather disorganised railway traffic, and completely stopped the Channel steamer traffic. Eight Hastings fishing boats were wrecked. The storm was also felt on the French coast, where vessels were wracked, resulting in the loss of upwards of one hundred lives.

S. M. J. Woods has been elected captain ef the Somerset eleven, Hewitt hiving resigned.
