WELLINGTON ITEMS.

(pee pbess association.) Wellington, This day. i At a meeting of unemployed held at the door of the ■ Government Buildings this morning about a hundred were present. Resolutions were passed urging the Government to push on public works to provide employment, and a deputation was appointed to wait on the Premier. The Chairman, who is known as Professor White, phrenologist, said it was to be distinctly understood that no blame was cast on the Government, which he considered the best in Australasia, but the}' wore talcing this means of letting Ministers know the extent to which want of work reached. The charge of arson against Capt; Baldwin is being heard in the E.M. Court. Nothing fresh has been adduced so far. A singular death occurred here in a very simple manner. A young man named George Pycroft, aged 22, was out riding when his horse fell, and Pycroft broke his big toe. Lockjaw supervened, and next day ho was dead, despite all the doctors could do. The Agent-General, in pursuance of instructions, ha 3 engaged J. A. Gelrath, of Arbroath, Scotland, and J. R. Charleon, inspector of the Veterinary Department of the Privy Council of Ireland, as official veterinary surgeons for New Zealand. Both men have high testimonials.
