His retiroment yesterday was caused by a severe bilious attack. The council wil ldeeide to-day wether he will bo allowed to fire in the niE.tcb.es in which ho retired. Shooting will probably bo suspended at five o'clock in order to allow competitors to go to town until Monday morning. The following tonvns have entered for the teams match — Wnngauui Rifles, A Battery, Auckland, Dunudin Rifle Club, Hon. Eeservo, Christchurcb, Greyraouth Rifle Club, Dunedin City Guards, Kaitangata Eifles, and Petone Eifle Club. Ladies Match, 200 yards, 10 shots, standing, kneeling, or sitting, not counting for belt, principal prize-takers : — Bandall, Palmerston North, 47, LC ; Eowo, "Wellington, 45, L5 ; J. Cameron, .Tcdui, 45, L4 ; McCarthy, Auckland, 45, L3 ; Jackson, Wellington, Parslow, Auckland, Harris, South Frank^n, Stitt, Wellington, Humphries, Napier, 44, L2 each. Including the Ladies' Match, the principal winners are — Head, Auckland, Ll6; Rose, Auckland, Llo ; A. Ballingor, Wellington, L9; Humphries, Napier, Howe, Wellington, L8 ; King, Oaraaru, L7 ; C. Cameron, Tenui, Dickson, Peninsula, Guise, Wellington, Spinley, Aucklan d, Ean dall, Paluierston North, Mc'C/ULLiiy, — AuuKiuuu, — vf: — "ninirrr-" ger, Wellington, £6 ; Henderson, Auckland, Williams, Wellington, £5- The Otago match, 300, 500, and 700 yards, seven shots, counting for the belt, is proceeding, but will not finish before five o'clock. Later. The Council has decided to allow Parslow to five in the matches from which he retired yesterday. There was a tricky wind at the 300 yards range of the Otago Match, which finished before lunch, the highest scorers being — Benton, Featherston, Howe, Wellington, Mooseman, Wanganui, 31 ; Feast, Featherston, 30 ; Eoss, Napier, Kruse, Wanganui, Mooro and Volme3, Potoue, and Buchanan, Auckland, 29. The other two ranges will be fired after lunch. The leading aggregates are : — Eoso, Auckland, 227 ; Humphries, Napier, 224 ; King, Oamaru, Hoad, Auckland, 223 ; A. Ballinger, Wellington, E. Mooseman, Wanganui, 222 ;A. Cameron, Tonui, 220 ; Kennedy, Napier, 218; Strachan, Alexandra Cavalry 217; W. Scott, Chri3tchurch, 216; W. Balliuger, Wellington, 215. The wind is increasing, and it will be difficult to keep on at the long ranges this afternoon. The Council examined private Martini-Henri Eifles to-day. Objection was taken to the rough steel plates of two, and the knife nights of two others. The objections are to be remedied, and the competitors will be allowed to continue the use of their weapons. Howe, of Wellington, and McCarthy, Auckland, with 85 each tie for tho Carbine Cup, each being highest scorers in tho Ladies' and Auckland matches. They will fire off. Tho Petono Eifle Club compote for tho gold watch, won by the Petone team at Now South Wales Association meeting, the day after the meeting closes. Tho competition takes place at Petone. The highest aggregate in two matches
will bo the winner.
