♦ (PERPBESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, This day. A remarkable defence was set up in a charge against the licenseo of the Bank Hotol of keeping a barmaid in the bar at 1^.45 a.m. on Christinas day. Tho Act says employees must not bo kept in the bar more than 10 hours, and not after 11 p.m. Tho defence was that employment could begin a moment after midnight, so long as not kept more than 10 hours, and tho E.M. upheld the contention.
