ORMONDVILLE SPORTS COMMITTEE.
A meeting cf the Ormondville Sports Committee took place on Thursday evening at 8 p.m., and was well attended. Mr A. , Smith was voted to the chair. On the proposal of Messrs Tucker and Groom it was resolved that sports bo held on December 27th of this year. The provisional Secretary then stated that there wa<* ,£9 in hand, wherewith to start the new .season. The start they were making was a rather early one, but there was nothing like being early in the field. The earlier the start the more publicity their programme was likely to get. Last year the Club had given away £42 in prizes, nnd this year they contemplate giving £60. The following programme was passed subject to the supervision of the committee, the programme to consist of sixteen events.—Ormondville Handicap, prize to be divided into thrse prizes, first .£10; 2nd £4 ; 3rd £2. One Mile Handicap, first £(i; 2nd £2 ; 3rd Maiden Race, Ist M ; 2nd £1. District Handicap is to be altered to a Friendly Societies llace. Half-Mile Handicap, Ist £4 ; 2nd £1 10s. High Jump, Human Wheelbarrow Race, Thrse-Legged Race, and 3 boys races. A Wrestling Match and a Friendly Societies Tug-of-War are other items in the programme. The tug-of-war is to be made a special event, the prize of £6 to go to the contingent fund of the winning Society. Each team to consist of six, the entrance fee to be is per man, or Cs for each team. It was agreed to send circulars to each of the Lodges. It was resolved to fence off the 100yds straight. The following were the members elected on the new committee : — Messrs J. C. YVestall (Secretary) H. Smith, Cutler, G. Wright, J. Packer, N. Nicholaisen, C. Raines, G-. Hansen, L. Falconer, R. 11. Groom, J. Skinner, H. England, C. Garforth, W. Howse, H. Smith junr., and Oisen. A subcommittee of Messrs G. Wright, Packer, and Baines were appointed to look after the ground. Messrs H. Smith and L. Falconer were appointed handicappers; starter J. O. Westall ; judges of running, Messrs L. Wright, C. Baines, and H. Smith junr. ; wrestling, Messrs S. Atby, Thos. Fothergill, and J. Bargh; jumping, Messss Packer, England and Groom. Judging of the tug-of-war to be arranged by the captains of the teams. It was resolved to print 100 programmes on stiff cardboard, to be nicely got up and a nice size to fit the pocket, programmes to be sent to sporting men, etc. The sum of ]0s entitles subscribers to a family ticket. Some £8 odd was promised in the room towards the funds. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
