(FEU PKEBB ASSOCIATION.) Sydney, Aug. 26. Groat crowds surrounded the office of the Proprietary mine at Broken Hill early this morning 1 , when work wns to bo resumed. Men and women were armod with sticks and stones, and sevoral assaults woro committod on those passing into the mines. Fifteen troopers, however, armed with sabros and rovolvers, and 50 foot police with fixed bayonets, had deterront effect, and after their appoaranco matters bocamo much more quiet. Tho Propiiotary mine began operations with 122 mon, and tho other mines secured from 8 to S3 hands each. Matters are quiot to-night, and no further trouble is expected. The men who havo boon taken on will live in the mines, and the Government are ready to send further I assistance if necessary. Seven directors and officials of the Australian Banking Company were committed for trial at the Criminal Court to-day. Bail was allowed. All protested there innocence.
A former employee of tho proprietary mine afc Broken Bill attempted to get taken ou again, but was bailed up by the pickets and pursued through the streets by a howling mob. He was rescued by the troopers, and Frederick Cox and Edward Keagh, leaders of the mob, were arrusted and charged with assault and sentenoed to three months each. Otherwise affairs at Broken Hill are quiet.
