There has boon discovered in the forest of India a strange plant, which poascsse3 to a very high degrco astonishing magnetic power. Tho hand winch breaks a lout from it receives immediately a shock equal to that which ia produced by tho conductor of an induction coil. At a distanco of six metres a magnetic needle is affected by it, and it will bo quite deranged if brought near. The energy of this singular influence vuries with tho hours of the day. All powerful about 2 o'clock in (ho afternoon, it ia absolutely annulled dining tho night. At timeH of storm ita intensity augments to striking proportions. During rain the plant seems to succumb, and bends its head during a thunder shower. It remains there without forco of virtue, even if ono should shelter it with an umbrella. No shock 13 felt at that time in breaking the leaves, and the needle 13 unaffected by it.
