Weber Road Board.

(FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.) At a meeting of the Weber Eoad Board, held at Ti Tree Point, on Saturday, the 9th inst, there were present — Messrs Crosse (chair), Cameron, Franeis, Franklin, , and Hales. ; „ On the motion of Mr 'Franklin, ; seconded, by Mr Hales, the (minutes 'of last meeting as read were, confirmed. ' ; , After a ' good deal of discussion/ with regard to the financial affairs of -the Board, Mr Franklin proposed, and Mr Hales seconded, that a, ; list" of the liabilities .taken over from the Porangahau- Road Board up to the 30th April, 1890, and showing where the money was , spent, be sent to the Commissioner of Crown Lands.— lt was also proposed by the Chairman, and seconded by Mr Franklin, that the" Commissioner be written to, asking why'th'e : m6ney was not paid in to the Board's credit in -accordance with his telegram of the sth June. It seems that there was £229 due to the Porangahau Road Board, and that Board ordered the money to be paid over to the Road Board. It seems also that; a telegram was received from the Commissioner on the sth June, statirig'that ' the ' tttqney would be paid into the Board's credit, .atleast the Board read the telegram so, but as yet no money had been paid to the Board's account, and had it not been for the kindness of the manager of the Bank at Danevirke cashipg their cheques, thereby saying their credit, the Board's hands would have been completely tied. Proposed by the Chairman and seconded by Mr Franklin, that the agent of the Bank of Ne# Zealand at Danevirkft be written to expressing regret at the inconvenience he is put to,jarid explaining the cause. Proposed by Mr Camerori and seconded by the Chairman, that Col. Herrick be, written to, explaining the matter to him, and requesting hirn^ to use his influence at the next meeting of the Land Board in putting this Board on a sound basis. Proposed by the Chairman and seconded by Mr Franklin, that letters received from Messrs Hales, Hart, apd Warren re reserves in' Weber be deferred to a future meeting. ; Proposed by the Chairman and seconded by , Mr Cameron, that consideration 'of letters from Messrs Bogle and Herrick re expenditure of accrued thirds be deferred until proposals are sanctioned by the Land Board. The following letter was received by the Board in reply to one from the Board asking for a return of some of the County rates collected in the district, which amounted to about £250,:The Chairman Weber Roid Board. Sir,- I have the honor in reply to your application for a refund of county rates, collected in your district for the last two years, to state that the County Council regrets its inability to comply with your demancl. The Council has decided, however, to refund all county rates to be collected in the Weber Road District after 11th September, 1890, for expenditure hy your Board on the Main Road within your East and West boundaries, such expenditure to be approved by the Council. The grant will be subject "t& a reduction of the amount for which. the rates are liable, in respect of the general expense of. the County. — YouijSi obediently, : l E. GILBERTSON, CP.C.C. Proposed by Mr Franklin and seconded by Mr Francis, that the Minister of Lands be written to through the member for the district requesting that the sections marked on tho memo be invested in the Road Board. Carried, . Proposed by Mr Franklin and seconded by Mr Hal.es, that the Over r seer's proposal for works ba agreed' to. Carried. Proposed by the Chairman and seconded , by Mr. Franklin, that the offer of Mr J. McKenzie tor felling th<J road up Table Stream for 30s,per ; acrel (everything to be .felled) be accepted; the same oßfer to a^ply to the road leading to, the dam. Carried. ' 1(l> ' Proposed foy the Chairman 'and seconded by Mr Franklin, that a rate of £d in the £ be struck on all rateable property in tho Tautane a.nd Weber S^rvjey Districts for the period from Ist April, 1.890, to 31st. March, 1891, payable in one sum on the 31st October, 1890, to W. Wylie, clerk, Wimbledon. Carried. Two small accounts were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned till the first Saturday in September.
