DANEVIRKE TOWN BOARD.

_ — - The adjourned meeting of the above Board was held on Thursday evening, j Present— Messrs Wright (Chairman), Rasmussen, Allardice, and Friis. , CORRESPONDENCE. Fronj the Treasury, stating that £5 16s 4d and £9 8s lOd had been paid into the Board's credit. From Mr Popplewell, asking that the Town Board reserve adjoining the school be leased to him at a rent of £l per annum. He agreed to : clear same, but asked for a certain tenure of four years. — It was moved by Mr Rasmussen, seconded by Mr Allardice, that tenders be called for the lease of the section. — Carried. From Mr W. C. Smith, M.H.R., re crossing at Christian-street, and stating that the Minister for Public Works could not entertain the idea oi making the' crossing.. Mr Smith mentioned that if the Board would undertake to make the crossing themselves he would bring the matter again before the Minister, and, he believed, with success.— lt was re- 1 solved to thank Mr Smith for the trouble he had taken, but to inform him that the Board was not in a position to bear the cost, which was estimated at £200. From Mr L. Wilson, applying for the position of Inspector of Public Buildings, at a salary of £20, he to take out an auctioneer's license. — Proposed by Mr Friis, seconded by Mr Allardice, That Mr Wilson be appointed* Carried. j accounts. Mr Friis said the Mangatera people were anxious to have the footpath laid off so that they could put up their fences on the proper line. The Clerk mentioned that Mr Bargh informed him it would cosi J2Q 6s to replace the iron pegs ploughed up, Mr Allardice said it was ridiculous the way things were now. People measured from the centre of the road, and then when their fences were up they found they wei c several feet out. The roads had been made anyhow.To avoid further delay h© would propose that Mr Bargh be instructed to lay off the footpaths on each side of the road and replace the standard survey at Mangatera.— Seconded by Mr Rasmussen and carried. Moved by the Chairman, seconded by Mr Friis, That tenders be called for clearing the timber off all streets as per schedule. —Carried. Mr Rasmussen said that Mr Bargh had inspected Messrs Ron berg and Clausen s Hall, and he had not been paid for it, Messrs Ronberg and Clausen having declined to do so. — Deferred. Mr Friis briefly moved a vote of thanks to the Chairman for his con- , duct in the chair. — Seconded by Mr Rasmussen and carried. The Chairman thanked them for their kindness in moving a vote of thanks. He had done his best. It might have been poor at the best, but when a man did his best h« conld do no more.
