Government Notice. THE EDUCATION BOARD OF THE DISTRICT OF NORTH CANTERBURY. SCHOOL DISTRICTS OF ASHBURTON, TINWALD, AND WILLOWBY.

THE Education Board of the District of North Canterbury proposes that the localities comprising all those parts of the 'district contained within the respective boundaries hereinafter described shall be erected into separate school districts, to be called respectively the School Districts of Ashburton, finwald, and Willowby, persuant to “ The Education Act, 1877 And the Board hereby call public meetings of the householders of such localities, to°be held on THURSDAY, the fifth day of DECEMBER 1878, at seven o’clock m the evening, for the purpose of electing Committees and considering the boundaries of the said proposed school districts. The places of meeting will be as follows : Ashburton —The SchOol-house. Tinwald—The Grain Store of Mr. Clark Willowby—The School-house. Boundaries of the School District of Ashburton —Commencing at the point where a straight line drawn from the north-eastern corner of rural section 8192 to the northernmost corner of section 10283 intersects the north bank of the river Ashburton ; thence by the said straight line to the northernmost corner of the said section 10283; thence by the north-eastern boundary of that section to its easternmost corner ; thence in a straight line to trig, pole 8 A ; thence in a straight line to trig, pole 15 ; thence in a straight line to the easternmost corner of section 10413 ; thence by the southeastern boundary of that section and by a line in continuation thereof to the river Ashburton ; and thence by the said river to the commencing point.' These boundaries comprise the former Ashburton district, exclusive of that portion which lies to the south of the river Ashburton. Boundaries of the School District of Tinwald—Bounded towards the northeast by the river Ashburton ; towards the north-west by the road separating rural section 5259 from section 6422, and section 5249 from section 5253 ; towards the south-west by roads leading from the westernmost comer of the latter section to the southern- , most corner of section 20819, by the railway from the said corner to Longbeach road, by that road to the southwest corner of section 22085, by the southern boundary of the latter section and of section 22084, and of the adjoining reserve to Ford’s road, and by Ford’s road to the southern cor- J ner of reserve 931, and towards the south-east by the road to the south-1 east by the said .reserve 931, and by the continuation of the said road to the river Ashburton. Within these boundaries is included so much of the former Ashburton district as lies south of the river Ashburton, and also so much of the former South Ashburton district as lies between the railway and the Longbeach road to the south-vest comer of section 22085, the southern boundaries of sections 22085, and 22084, the roads forming the boundaries of reserve 931, and the Ashburton road. Boundaries of the School District of Willowby Commencing at the northernmost corner of rural section 18003 ; thence southerly by the road separating reserve 737 from section 17187, and by the road in continuation thereof to the southernmost corner of ; reserve 738; thence by the road forming the southern boundary of reserve 738, to its junction with the road forming the south-eastern boundary of section 8368 ; thence by the latter road to the southernmost corner of section 16744 ; thence by the road running on the south side of section 20348 to the railway ; thence by the railway to the Longbeach road, and thence by the boundaries of the School District of Tinwald to the commencing point. These boundaries comprise the former South Ashburton District, exclusive of the portion above described as included in the proposed School District of Tinwald. J. V. COLBORNE-VEEL, Secretary.
