DOMINION FORCES COMPARISON WITH 1914-18 Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, this day. Thirty-five thousand more men served in the New Zealand forces overseas in tne war just ended than in the 1914-18 war, but there were only 37,497 casualties, or 28 per cent, against 55,155, or 58 per cent, in the 1914-18 war. The only increase was in the number of prisoners of war. These figures were announced yesterday by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, when he was asked for a comparison of New Zealand's casualties in the two wars. This is the first occasion on which official casualty figures have been issued which cover the whole period of the recent war from 1939 to the end of hostilities. The total number of men who lefc New Zealand for service overseas in all branches of the forces was 135,000. compared with 100.444 in the 1914-18 war.
