ORAKEI RECREATION AREAS
In the hope that something will be definitely accomplished I ask space in your column to urge, indeed, even to demand, that the Auckland City Council proceed immediately with the provision of .suitable recreation facilities for the residents of Orakei. Established for over seven years and now one of the most thickly populated areas in the city, Orakei enjoys not one playing area within the immediate vicinity, although quite a 1 number of sections have been set aside or recommended as suitable for conversion to sports grounds. The work of a number of sporting bodies operating in Orakei is being seriously handicapped by the apparent lack of interest shown by the council and it is high time that this neglectful attitude ceased and that the council was stirred to action. No excuse can now -be made for this neglect of the needs of the residents of Orakei as the interest of public health and the safety of the many children should be of paramount importance and it cannot be denied that playing areas for adults and children are essential to the general welfare of the community.
