MINISTER'S REPLY
WATERFRONT DISPUTE NORMAL WORK MUST RESUME Investigation of Auckland waterside workers' claims will be made by the Government as soon as the men resume normal work. The actingMinister of Labour, Mr. O'Brien, conveyed this information to the secretary of the Auckland Trades Council, Mr. W. Ashton, on Saturday. Mr. Ashton said this morning that he had twice been in communication with Mr. O'Brien on Saturday, but that he was not prepared to make a statement until he met the executive of the Auckland Waterside Workers' Union at 8 a.m. to-morrow.
The Trades Council sought Government intervention in the dispute in a resolution passed at the monthly meeting on Thursday night, when a conference was requested in Auckland to settle the watersiders' claims.
The go-slow policy, which continued until about 10 a.m. on Saturday, when the men stopped work, has been carried out since October 9 on the Glen Line freighter Denbighshire, which is loading foodstuffs for •the United Kingdom at Queen's wharf, and on all other vessels since last Tuesday.
