WEEK-END EVENTS NELSON CYCLIST'S SUCCESS New Zealand Cycling Championship.— The New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association's annual Palmerston North to Wellington road race on Saturday, states a Palmerston North P.A. message, was won by T. R. Carter (Nelson), who completed the 100-mlie course in 4h 53m 5 2-os. Carter won by a foot and a half from A. W. Stonex (Auckland). The Walsh trophy for the first Wellington rider to complete the course, went to J. Martin, 5h 14m ss. The cyclists left Palmerston North at 9.42 a.m. The first eight were: T. R. Carter (Nelson), A. W. Stonex (Auckland), J. Stevens (Auckland), G. Simpson-Beer (Auckland), P. E. Knight (Auckland), L. Howes (Nelson). T. Martin (Wellington), C. Huxford (Wellington). Swimming Carnivals.—A P.A. message from Christchurch states that the annual meeting of delegates to the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association allocated championship dates as follows:—Seniors: Napier, February 23, 25 and 26. Knrt of Soever Season. —The Soccer season was closed on Saturday with the champion of champions match between Philomel and North Shore at Blnmlford Park. Philomel avenged its defeat by North Shore in the Falcon Cup match the previous week to make the find game a decisive victory, 4—l. North Shore had two juniors playing in the first spell, but they did well, while Philomel lost Swann and played 10 men for a considerable period of the first spell. Shore's I;eague Championship.—North Shore ran up an early lead in the champion of champions match against Otnhuhu at Carlaw Park on Saturday, but was extended in the second half and was rather lucky to come out with a 15—13 win. It was a fast and open game, with patches of good constructive play. Shore backs combined better than their opponents in the early stages, but Riley, Simons, Keat and Martin showed penetrative ability in the second spell. Both packs worked with determination throughout, Otahuhu's effort after it had lost J. Johnston's services being particularly notable.
