LOANS IN LEAD

INVESTMENT TURNOVER

BANKING SHARES WEAKER

Continued active trading in Government loans has been the main factor in keeping business at a moderate level on the Auckland Stock Exchange during the past week. No major influences have been experienced, but. each day the flow of investment funds into gilt-edged securities has been maintained at an average rate of several thousands of pounds, with all changes in values upwards. The yield of the 2J per cent issues on present prices appears to have settled appreciably below 3 per cent. Among banking and insurance shares, the tendency has been downwards. New Zealands weakened at the close, while National Banks dropped 6d after having been steady at £2 15/9 for fully six weeks. Brewery shares were firm, Dominions making" advances to reach £2 15/. There was little interest in Australian Issues, and local industrials were generally quiet, the principal movement being a rise of 2d in Fletcher Holdings and of H<l in Farmers - Fertilisers, an adjustment in Reid Rubbers in response to the announcement of the new issue, and a slight weakening in Wilsons Cements. Marthas were firmest in the mining group, ending a penny higher than a week ago. Mount Morgans reacted 2d.
