LEGATION APPOINTMENTS
Posts at the United States Legation in Wellington will be filled by two prominent American officials who arrived in Auckland on the Denbighshire from San Francisco yesterday. They are Dr. Carroll Daugherty, a well known economist and industrial writer, who will be attached to the Foreign Economic Administration Mission in New Zealand, and Mr. O. S. Watson, who is to be commercial attache to the Legation. Dr. Daughterty is accompanied by his wife and two children. His wife, who is the daughter of Mrs. W. H. Roberts, of Pukenui Road, Epsom, graduated bachelor of arts at the Otago University and later went to London University to continue her studies. She has spent the past 18 years m America and graduated as doctor of philosophy at Chicago University, where Dr. Daugherty received his doctorate in economic philosophy. Mr. Watson, who is accompanied by his wife and daughter, has had wide experience as a Government representative. He was at one time commercial attache at Helsingfors and has. served as trade commissioner at Canton and Peking. He served with the National Recovery Administration in America and, following this, he was commercial attache at Stockholm. His post preceding the appointment to this country was commercial attache at Caracas, Venezuela.
