HIGH COMMISSIONER
CIVIC WELCOME PLANNED
It is expected that Mr. W. J. Jordan, High Commissioner for New Zealand in the United Kingdom, will arrive at Auckland early next week on his first visit to the Dominion since his appointment to London in 1936. Mr. Jordan, who is accompanied by Mrs. Jordan, is travelling from England via Canada and the United States by the R.A.F. Transport Command service. The time of arrival of the plane is not yet certain, but if there are no delays it should land at Whenuapai on Monday morning.
The Mayor, Mr. Allum, said this morning that plans had been made for Mr. and Mrs. Jordan to be accorded a civic welcome. It would be held in the Town. Hall in the evening on a date to be arranged with Mr. Jordan after his arrival.
The Onehunga and One Tree Hill Borough Councils have also planned receptions for Mr. and Mrs. Jordan. If it is convenient to Mr. Jordan the Onehunga reception will be held to-morrow week when presentation will be made of an illuminated address. The Mayor of One Tree Hill, Mr. I. J. Goldstine, said this morning that presentations would be made to both Mr. and Mrs. Jordan on behalf of the borough, the date of the reception to be arranged with Mr. Jordan.
Prior to his appointment as High Commissioner. "Mr. Jordan was member of Parliament for Onehunga.
On their arrival at Whenuapai Mr. and Mrs. Jordan will be met by Mr. Allum, or, in his unavoidable absence, by the deputy-Mayor, Mr. J. L. Coakley, by Mr. A. G. Osborne, M.P. for Onehunga, and the Mayors of Onehunga and One Tree Hill.
