TWO DEATHS
CRASH DOWN HILLSIDE
PARTY IN ARMY TRUCK
P.A. WELLINGTON, this day. An Army truck conveying a party of 20 men from the Trentham Army Ordnance Depot going on daily duty to a post in the Belmont area, west of the Hutt Valley, crashed down a 300 ft hillside this morning. As far as is known one man, whose name is not yet known, was killed outright. Lance-Corporal T. R. Veach, of Nelson, died after admission to the Hutt Hospital. The injured include: Sergeant T. A. B. Claridge, Levin; Corporals W. M. Hugh (Wellington) and J. R. Parker (Hawera), Privates N. F. Bond (Dunedin) and V. E. T. Nicholas (Hastings). Further particulars regarding the casualties are not yet available owing to the great difficulty of recovering the men from the scene of the accident.
