NOVEL AUCTION
SACRIFICE BY VENDOR HOME FOR RETURNED MAN An innovation to meet the full spirit of the Servicemen's Settlement and Land Sales Act was introduced bv Messrs. C. F. Bennett and Co. in the sale by auction yesterday of a particularly well furnished house, while the vendor showed a fine example by giving an ex-serviceman bidder preference although his £3000 bid was £750 below the highest offer. The vendor was Mrs. E. C. West, 9 Tarawera Terrace, St. Heliers Bay, ?ne home being of five rooms sun porches, basement garage k"" 1 and half an acre of freehold land laid out as an orchard and nursery. The bidding started at £2000 and rose to £3750. The bidders were then g?ven a form on which they were asked to give the amount of their bid particulars of service in the First or Second World War, other house property owned by them the number of their family, and how SSy of "hem or other dependents would live with the purchaser in Se home. Writing to the auctioneershe said that if more, people would adopt the same principle the work of the Rehabilitation Department would be greatly eased.
