BASKETBALL HONOURS

SURREY HILLS IN LEAD A further series of matches in all grades except senior was held by the Auckland Basketball Association at the Windmill Road courts, but the championship winners will not be decided until next Saturday.

In the senior grade, however, Surrey Hills has already emerged as the likely victor, since the team beat Killarua by 17 goals to 14 last Saturday week. Although each team has one more match to play next Saturday these are unlikely to affect the championship. By their success this year Surrey Hills regains the championship from Killarua, which won last year. Prior to that, Surrey Hills was the champion for three successive years - without the loss of a game.

The championship has been closely contested, with Surrey Hills now leading Killarua by one point, while previously Killarua was leading by one point. As the matches now stand Surrey Hills has had two draws and Killarua has had one draw and one loss, both sides winning their other games.

In the match last Saturday week, which was hard-fought, the Surrey Hills forwards played a splendid game, outstanding players being the captain", Miss Mary Sullivan (back goaler), Miss Molly Heighton (Centre) anr' Miss Josie Hickey (defence). Prominent in the Killarua team were the captain, Miss Joyce Mulvihill (back defence). Miss Joan Mac Lean (goaler) and Miss Kathleen Thompson (centre). The presentation of trophies will take place at the conclusion of the games next Saturday. Saturday's results were:— Senior Reserve.—Belvedere 14, v. Killarua 9; College 8, v. Aotca S; College 15, v.
