A SOUND EFFORT

LORD CHANCELLOR IMPRESSES A sound effort by the Mr. Standfast gelding, Lord Chancellor, was one of the features of the work on the middle grass at Takanini this morning, the poles being out 20 feet and the going in good order. Lord Chancellor hit out particularly well over half a mile in 52 l-ss, giving the impression that he could have done better. Sweet Biscuit and My Bonnie clocked 555, upon which they could have improved, particularly the former. Yours and Mine worked stylishly to record 545. Other gallops over this distance were by Dollar Money, who took 575, as did Landveyor. Over five furlongs, the honours went to Jovial Song and Lady Adornment, the pair being on terms throughout to complete their task in 1.5 4-5. Default and Fiorin completed their work in 1.8 2-5, after running the first half-mile in 545. The Guineas candidate, Black Ace, worked solidly over a round, the mile taking 1.55, the fastest section being the last half mile, which required 555, He was keen to work and could have done Beau Dink went over one and a half miles, running the last six furlongs in 1.22 3-5s and the last three in 38 3-ss. He worked soundly. . Coronaire and Waiting were associated over six furlongs in 1.21 1-5, the first three furlongs taking 39 2-ss. There was little between them at the finish. White Blaze hit out pleasingly over three furlonge hi 39 3-ss, and seemg to be improving with each gallop. The juvenile Knight Templar is the first two-year-old at Takanini to break 2os for two furlongs, running the distance in 24 2-ss, an excellent effort, despite a following wind ana the fact that the gallop was recorded between the five furlongs and the three.
