MR. CHURCHILL
MAY VISIT DOMINION
INVITATION BY GOVERNMENT Parliamentary Reporter. WELLINGTON, this day. While the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, was in Britain an invitation had been extended to Mr. Winston Churchill to visit New Zealand, and it was hoped that he would come, and bring Mrs. Churchill with him, stated the acting-Leader of the House, Mr. Nash, in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon. He was replying to a request by the Opposition, voiced by Mr. Holland, that such an invitation oe sent. Mr. Holland said that the invitation to Mr. Churchill to visit the Dominion as the guest of the Government would enable the people to express to him their profound admiration of, and grateful thanks for, the inspired leadership he gave to the Empire during the critical years when everything they held dear was in danger. It was hoped that any such invitation would be so expressed as to include Mrs. Churchill. Mr. Nash said that in addition to the invitation to Mr. Churchill an invitation had been issued to the late President Roosevelt to come to New Zealand. Mr. Holland inquired whether, in view of the altered circumstances, the invitation to Mr. Churchill could be renewed. Mr. Nash: There are no altered circumstances in connection with aninvitation of that type.
